NFL Week 8 Recap

Week 8 of the NFL season brought plenty of fireworks, drama, and defining moments. From Jayden Daniels’ thrilling Hail Mary to Kansas City’s trade for DeAndre Hopkins, paired with a standout performance by Travis Kelce against the Raiders.

Buffalo continued to impress, raising the question of whether they’re the biggest threat to Kansas City in the AFC. Meanwhile, questions linger over the Jets and Bengals after another disappointing weekend—are their playoff hopes officially dashed?

Travis Kelce

Hail to the Commanders

Jayden Daniels delivered one of the season’s most dramatic moments with a jaw-dropping Hail Mary against the Bears on Sunday. With nearly 13 seconds to launch the throw, Daniels scrambled and bought time, evading Chicago’s 3 man rush. (Chicago came under fire for this, why not rush 5 defenders to pressure the QB?) Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, caught taunting fans before the pass, reached for the ball only to tip it into the hands of Noah Brown in the end zone, sealing an iconic, karma-filled moment. With the play, Daniels improved Washington to 6-2 on the year, marking their best start to a season since 2008.

Chiefs Trade for D-Hop ; Kelce Scores First TD

The Kansas City Chiefs made waves this past week by trading a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins. This pick could upgrade to a fourth-rounder if Hopkins plays 60% of Kansas City’s snaps and the Chiefs reache the Super Bowl. Adding Hopkins provides 3-time champ Patrick Mahomes a valuable target in a thin WR room, and for Hopkins, it’s a prime opportunity for his first deep playoff run.

In his Chiefs debut against the Raiders, Hopkins had 2 catches for 29 yards, with head coach Andy Reid promising to get him more involved against Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, Travis Kelce looked like his old self, snagging 10 catches for 90 yards and his first touchdown of the season, helping the Chiefs remain undefeated at 7-0. Who will be the first team to beat KC?

Is Buffalo KC's Biggest Threat in the AFC?

As of right now, I do think the Bills are Kansas City's biggest threat in the AFC. Since 2021, the Chiefs biggest threat has been the Bengals. That has changed this year, the Bengals defense is one of the worst in the league, Who Dey has a lot to improve on this season. Buffalo host' Kansas City Week 11, cannot wait for that one. This weekend, the Bills asserted their dominance with a decisive 31-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, controlling the game from start to finish. Their defense was exceptional, holding Seattle to just 244 yards of total offense, including a mere 32 rushing yards and no passing touchdowns. On the offensive side, Josh Allen, now leading the MVP race at (+270), threw for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns. His chemistry with rookie WR Keon Coleman continues to strengthen, as Coleman hauled in 5 of 7 targets for 90 yards and a touchdown. That is back-to-back games with 7 targets. Can the duo keep it up next week in a division showdown vs Miami?

Are the Jets & Bengals finished?

The New York Jets sit at 2-6 while the Bengals are 3-5 eight games into the season. These two teams are without a doubt the most disappointing teams thus far.

After a Super Bowl run in 2021, an AFC Championship appearance the next season, it seemed as if the Bengals would be a top team for years to come. Fast forward to Week 9 of the 2024 season, the team has disappointed in all aspects (minus Burrow & Chase). The front office failed to extend key players on the defense that helped Cincy reach Super Bowl 56. Jessie Bates, DJ Reader, Chido Awuzie, and Larry Ogunjobi were not offered contract extensions, the Bengals replaced them with draft busts in order to "save money". This defense has been embarrassed week after week in all of those positions that they let walk. If the Bengals miss the playoffs this year, they have some serious soul searching to do.

The New York Jets were expected to be Super Bowl favorites, yet they are still a bottom feeder. What has happened to Aaron Rodgers? He doesn't look mobile, his arm strength has shrunk, missing open targets, and tossing more interceptions than we've ever seen from him. It isn't only Rodgers, the Jets defense looks nothing like they had the past 2-3 years. What's next for New York?
