NFL Week 5 Recap

The NFL Coaching carasoul has begun! One down, many more to go. Kirk Cousins throws for over 500 yards in the Falcons win over Tampa, is he officially back? After a 3-0 start, the Bills, Seahawks, and Steelers are now 3-2. Where did things go wrong? Can Arizona make a playoff push?

Robert Saleh

Jets fire Head Coach Robert Saleh

A few weeks ago, I predicted that teams would begin firing head coaches soon, I predicted that Doug Pederson would be canned first. I did not expect the Jets to fire Saleh so quickly. With a key division game this week against Buffalo, firing the coach wasn't on most Jets fans radar. Clearly, the defense was never the problem. Last year the Jets offense had scored 93 points through 5 weeks. This year through five weeks the Jets offense, with Aaron Rodgers, has scored exactly 93 points.

Owner Woody Johnson is obviously impatient and is sick of not meeting expectations. I am not quite sure what Jeff Ulbrich will bring to the table or how he can turn it around. Ulbrich named Todd Downing playcaller for the offense after being promoted, maybe the demotion of Nathaniel Hackett will give the offense a spark. A win versus Buffalo this weekend would be a major confidence boost.

Atlanta or Tampa Bay?

After a thriller on Thursday Night Football between Atlanta and Tampa Bay, it's safe to say these two will be in a tight battle for the NFC South crown. Last Thursday's game may have been one of the most exciting Thursday Night game's the NFL has ever had. A back and forth battle ended with the Falcons scoring a game-winning TD in OT. Kirk Cousins threw for 509 yards and 4 TD's, while Baker threw for 180 and 3 TD's. The two teams face off again in 3 weeks, I already can't wait for that matchup although I wish it were later in the season.

When will Pittsburgh change QB's?

After three good starts from QB Justin Fields, he has come back down to earth. Fields' inconsistency has begun to show up again, completing just 14 of of his 25 passing attempts for a measly 138 yards. He did throw 2 TD's, but key offensive drives cost Pittsburgh the game. The Steelers defense had a fumble recovery, interception and blocked field goal, all three turnovers resulted in punts. Russell Wilson is still nursing a calf injury, so it looks like Fields will still be the Steelers QB for the foreseeable future.

Who is the MVP right now?

FanDuel currently has Patrick Mahomes as the MVP favorite at (+230). Mahomes has thrown for 6 TD's and 6 INT's, there is no way on god's green earth that Mahomes is the league MVP right now. Whoever made those odds should be fired. Psh, Sam Darnold (+1200) is a more worthy MVP right now than Patrick Mahomes. There may not be a clear-cut MVP right now but it's clear Mahomes isn't the MVP right now. Players ahead of Mahomes in the MVP conversation right now are Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Lamar Jackson.
