The NFL Week 1 action didn’t disappoint, kicking off the 2024 season with thrilling games, surprising upsets, and standout performances. From rookie debuts to last-minute comebacks, fans were treated to a weekend full of excitement. As teams start to set the tone for the season, we recap the biggest highlights, key takeaways, and what it all means for the road ahead. Let’s dive into the top moments from Week 1!
Josh Allen looks like an MVP
Just when it looked like the Bills were on upset alert by Arizona in Week 1, Josh Allen turned it around. Allen put the team on his back and threw for 2 TD's while also rushing for 2 TD's. Safe to say this is a great start to his 2024 MVP campaign.
Kirk Cousins & Aaron Rodgers Return from Torn Achilles
Two of some of the best QB's in the league made their return from tearing their achilles last season. As expected, both QB's struggled in their first game back. Each QB took an L to start the season, as the offenses struggled to get going. One glaring issue is that Kirk Cousins was struggling to push off his injured foot, it was very noticable. It will be interesting to see how these two progress throughout the season.
Why do the Bengals always start slow?
No team in the National Football League is better at shooting themselves in the foot than the Cincinnati Bengals. Year in and year out the Bengals fall flat in Week 1. The offense looked very preditable, Burrow did not look like Burrow, Higgins in hurt (like always) and Ja'Marr wants his money. It's not 2021 anymore, Zac Taylor and the coaching staff need to make some big timw adjustments. After losing to the New England Patriots, the Bengals head to Arrowhead to face the defending champion Chiefs. Safe to assume Cincy starts 0-2 for the third year in a row.
Things could get ugly fast in New York.
The New York Giants got throttled 28-6 by Sam Darnold and the injured ravaged Minnesota Vikings at home. Daniel Jones looked even worse than he did pre-ACL. With a loss to Washington this weekend, things will unravel in East Rutherford. How can the Giants continue turning to Daniel Jones? We will see how long that last.
Niners & Chiefs look like Super Bowl favorites again.
San Francisco made light work of the New York Jets without Christian McCaffrey meanwhile Kansas City did their job against Baltimore. The Chiefs offense looked better in Week 1 than it did at any point in the season last year. If Week 1 was any indication, there's a strong chance we see a Super Bowl rematch. This could be the next Warriors-Cavaliers.
